Blackwing Volume 292 Keith Haring
Keith Haring was one of the most renowned young artists of the 1980s. Inspired by the graffiti artists who covered the city's subway cars, Haring began drawing with white chalk on the black paper that covered empty billboards. As early as 1980, Haring began exhibiting in galleries and museums around the world, but he continued to participate in public projects, creating murals, sculptures, and paintings for hospitals, groups for underprivileged children, and various healthcare organizations.
When he opened his Pop Shop at 292 Lafayette Street, he envisioned it as a physical extension of his work, a place where everyone was welcome to experience his art. He believed in using commercial projects like the Pop Shop to reach people who would otherwise never have encountered his message, a legacy that lives on today in this box of pencils.
Volume 292 is a tribute to Keith Haring. Each pencil features Haring's world-famous dancing figures. The pencils contain balanced graphite (4B) and have a red eraser. The box contains 12 pencils.
Blackwing
The story of Blackwing pencils started in the 30s when the Blackwing 602 was introduced by Eberhard Faber. In 1998, after different takeovers, the pencils were no longer produced. But by then the Blackwing already was immense popular with artists, musicians and scientists. Prices on Ebay went up to 40 dollar a pencil. In 2010 Palomino, a company with a rich history of almost 100 years in the pencil business, reintroduced the Blackwing on the market. The searched and found the best materials for this pencil.
Praised in the New Yorker, The Boston Globe, and Boing Boing among others, the Palomino Blackwing 602 features a firm and smooth graphite core that helps it deliver on its promise of “Half the Pressure, Twice the Speed.” Its unique and iconic ferrule allows you to extend and replace its eraser after extensive use.
