Lucie Kaas hand painted Flo-Jo kokeshi doll
"The main reason I wanted to be successful was to get out of the ghetto. My parents helped direct my path."
Florence Griffith - Flo Jo
The Kokeshi dolls are made of Beech wood and meticulously hand painted by Becky Kemp. The dolls are sealed in a hard wearing Satin varnish for a smooth and tactile finish. The Sketch.inc for Lucie Kaas collection includes some of the most inspiring legends and icons within the fashion, art, music and cultural world.
Florence Delorez Griffith Joyner, also known as Flo-Jo, was an American track and field athlete. She is the fastest woman of all time; the world records she set in 1988 for both the 100 m and 200 m still stand. During the late 1980s she became a popular figure in international track and field because of her record-setting performances and flashy personal style.
Kokeshi dolls originate in north-Japan. They are handmade from wood, have a simple trunk and an enlarged head with a few thin, painted lines to define the face.
