Lucie Kaas hand painted Tommie Smith kokeshi doll
“I had to get myself in the world's eye to make my statement."
Tommie Smith
The Kokeshi dolls are made of Beech wood and meticulously hand painted by Becky Kemp. The dolls are sealed in a hard wearing Satin varnish for a smooth and tactile finish. The Sketch.inc for Lucie Kaas collection includes some of the most inspiring legends and icons within the fashion, art, music and cultural world.
Thomas C. Smith is a former American sprinter who specialized in the 200 m. He became Olympic champion. At the medal ceremony in 1968, Tommie Smith and the also black number three John Carlos created a controversial moment. Both appeared on stage without shoes in black socks, to express the poverty among black Americans.
Kokeshi dolls originate in north-Japan. They are handmade from wood, have a simple trunk and an enlarged head with a few thin, painted lines to define the face.
We have a large collection of dolls in stock.
