This edition of the Lucie Kaas kokeshi doll is a tribute to the music legend, fashion icon, great source of inspiration and role model for all generations; Sir Elton John.
Elton John has expressed himself through many pop culture hits and through various flamboyant outfits. These humorous outfits include colors, sequins, feather boas, capes, hats and glasses that have amazed fans time and again.
In collaboration with Elton John, 2 well-known outfits were used to make these Elton John look-a-like kokeshis. This is the pink-colored outfit worn during 'The Muppet Show' in 1977 and the other is a white feather-covered outfit worn at a PR photo shoot at his home in 1974. (you can find it here)

The Kokeshi dolls are made of Beech wood and meticulously hand painted by Becky Kemp. The dolls are sealed in a hard wearing Satin varnish for a smooth and tactile finish. The characters within the collection were born from Becky's sketchbook doodles of caricatured icons from the art and design world as a celebration of those who have influenced and inspired. There are also imaginary figures available.

Kokeshi dolls originate in north-Japan. They are handmade from wood, have a simple trunk and an enlarged head with a few thin, painted lines to define the face.

Who is becky Kemp?

Becky Kemp is the artist behind the creative world of Sketch.Inc. Her work is inspired by geometric expression, Japanese illustrations and Nordic aesthetics. In 2015 she started to work with Lucie Kaas, a Danish company that has the same fascination for geometric expression and loves to tell the stories of the designers they represent.
